Festival of Young Composers 2009

For 2009 we’re proud to announce an exciting competition for young composers in the Petersfield area. We’re inviting you to submit your own composition in one of the three categories below to gain the opportunity not only for cash support to your musical studies, but also the opportunity to feature in Petersfield’s 2010 Musical Festival.

14* and under: composition under 4 minutes, first prize £100, runner up £25
16* and under: composition under 5 minutes, first prize £150, runner up £50
19* and under: composition under 5 minutes, first prize £200, runner up £75

  • Compositions may be for solo instrument/voice or for groups of up to 12 players and/or singers.
  • Entries must be the applicant’s original work and countersigned as such by a music teacher, parent or guardian.
  • There will be a public performance and adjudication day at The Studio, The Petersfield School on Saturday 6 February 2010: selected winning compositions will be invited to perform during the 2010 Petersfield Musical Festival.
  • All compositions must be submitted as a written score on or before 15 December 2009 and performed on the adjudication day.
  • Prizes are awarded at the discretion of the adjudicators and must be used in furthering musical studies.
  • Entrants are responsible for arranging the performance of their composition.
