The Petersfield Musical Festival/Michael Hurd Memorial Fund competition for Young Composers held its public performance and adjudication of the entries on Saturday 6th February 2010 in The Studio at the Petersfield School.
The event was notable for the high quality of entries, which it was clear had involved much hard work on the part of all concerned. After careful deliberation by the adjudicators, prizes to be used in connection with the furtherance of musical education were awarded as follows:
Under 14s
Winner - Toby Roe, Closing Ceremony for cornet trio
Runner up - Tim McBain, Trumpet Sonata
Under 16s
Winner - Natasha Page, Rainbow of Emotion
Runner up - Sarah Dunglinson, Into the Unknown
19 and under
Winner - Tim Braithwaite, The Oxen
Runner up - Josh Hall, Sonata for Oboe and String Quartet
Certificate of Merit - Justin Campbell, Distractions
It is hoped to feature the winners at the 2010 Petersfield Musical Festival Youth Concerts.
